A lot of homeowners think they have to choose between privacy and natural light. You get one or the other. But that's really not the case - it just comes down to choosing the right treatments for each window in your home.

This whole-home install is a good example of how roller shades and plantation shutters can work together without competing. The stairwell wall features a set of custom roller shades fitted across multiple windows, including a center arched window that most off-the-shelf options simply can't accommodate. The shades let soft, diffused light filter through while keeping the space from feeling exposed.

Then there's the bathroom. That arched window above the tub could have easily been left bare or covered up with something generic. Instead, we went with a specialty sunburst plantation shutter - custom built to follow the curve of the arch. It gives the window its own identity while doing the job of keeping the space private. The standard shutters below it handle light control with clean, adjustable louvers. Together, the two pieces make the window feel intentional rather than like an afterthought.

That's really the standard we hold ourselves to on every job. Every window has a different function and a different challenge. We think through each one individually - the light it gets, the privacy it needs, what shape it is - and then we build something that fits. Not just physically, but visually too.

When the treatments are right, they don't stick out. They just make the room feel finished. That's what we're going for every time.
